Claude Desktop
Connect Claude Desktop to XField in gateway mode and use Kimi, DeepSeek, GLM and Qwen from the model picker.
Claude Desktop can use XField as an Anthropic-compatible gateway. Gateway mode reads the model list from XField, and chats and tool calls go through your XField API key instead of an Anthropic subscription.
You need the current Claude Desktop app and an API key from Settings › API keys. No key yet? Request access.
Connect the gateway
- Open Claude Desktop's gateway setup.
- Set the Base URL to
https://xfield.cloud.brutal.ai/api/claude. - Paste your
sk-xf-v1-...key in the API key field. - Test or save the connection, then choose one of the models returned by the gateway.
Use the base URL exactly as shown. /api/claude is important: it provides Desktop's Anthropic-shaped model discovery and token-counting routes in addition to Messages.
Model names
Claude Desktop only admits gateway model IDs that follow Claude's naming convention. XField therefore publishes Claude-shaped aliases on this endpoint and routes them to the actual model shown in the picker:
| Desktop model ID | Model that runs | Good for |
|---|---|---|
claude-fable | Kimi K3.1 Pro Uncensored | Very long outputs and large-context work |
claude-opus | DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 Uncensored | Coding, tools, security research and long agent runs |
claude-sonnet | GLM 5.3 Flash Uncensored | Fast everyday chat and batch work |
claude-haiku | Qwen 3.8 27B Uncensored | Short, lightweight requests and image input |
These are compatibility aliases, not claims that the underlying models are Anthropic models. The response keeps the alias that Desktop selected. Elsewhere in the XField API, use the models' real IDs.
Check the connection
You can verify model discovery outside Desktop before saving the gateway:
export XFIELD_API_KEY="sk-xf-v1-..."
curl -sS "https://xfield.cloud.brutal.ai/api/claude/v1/models" \
-H "x-api-key: $XFIELD_API_KEY"The response should contain the four claude-... IDs above. To check a message directly:
curl -sS "https://xfield.cloud.brutal.ai/api/claude/v1/messages" \
-H "x-api-key: $XFIELD_API_KEY" \
-H "anthropic-version: 2023-06-01" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{
"model": "claude-opus",
"max_tokens": 100,
"messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Reply with: connected"}]
}'Desktop versus Claude Code
Claude Desktop uses https://xfield.cloud.brutal.ai/api/claude because it discovers models. The Claude Code setup may keep using https://xfield.cloud.brutal.ai/api with the real XField model IDs. Both routes reach the same model providers; the Desktop route adds the Claude-shaped aliases and discovery endpoints.
If Desktop reports that no models are available, check that the base URL ends in /api/claude, not /api or /api/v1. A 401 means the key is missing, disabled, expired or was copied incorrectly.
